Fall in Chicago is a magical, time where the weather is perfect and everyone is fueled by pumpkin spice lattes. With frigid temperatures and snow looming around the corner, we choose to embrace the season of change here in Chicago. At Holly & Tanager, we came up with a list of our top reasons to look forward to fall.
Restoring our Fall Wardrobe
We can’t help but jump on the opportunity to break-out our favorite fall wardrobe items. Bring on the textures, rich colors, and prints of fall! We don’t mind retiring summer’s trends when it means we get to bring back our favorite plaid, animal print, and paisley pieces. Not to mention, all of the amazing fabrics we can finally bring out from the depths of our closet - coated leathers, tweed, herringbone, jacquard satin and more. Layered looks such as button downs with light sweaters and midi-dresses with belted trenches provide the perfect level of comfort and warmth in the Windy City. And, when the snow comes, those cute fall booties just won’t cut it anymore. So break them out and admire their cuteness while you can!
We love to pair our re-found fall wardrobe with the perfect accessories. Top off any layered look with a posh scarf and our Companion Max in any one of our rich colors. The Companion Max is a crossbody clutch from Chicago that converts from a crossbody bag to a sleek clutch, making it an easy transition from a day at the apple orchard to a night on the town.
A Packed Calendar
Now that the weather is cooling down, it’s a great time to get out and enjoy fall festivals and events. Here are some events we are looking forward to in our hometown Chicago.
Fall Fest at Lincoln Park Zoo - a family-friendly event that has a pumpkin patch, corn maze, ferriswheel, musical entertainment, and more, making it fun for people of all ages! More info at https://www.lpzoo.org/fall-fest
Green City Market at Lincoln Park West Loop and Gallagher Way - an outdoor farmers market offering a diverse range of foods from local producers, farmers, and some of Chicago's most renowned chefs. More info at http://www.greencitymarket.org/.
Bloody Mary Fest at Theater on the Lake - a “Sunday Funday” devoted to selecting Chicago’s best Bloody Mary, devouring brunch bites, and shopping the Artisan Market. More info at https://www.bloodymarychi.com/
Awaken the Senses
So many pleasant smells, tastes, and colors give life to autumn. The smell of burning firewood, warm cinnamon, and pumpkin spice is enough to make us grab a book and find a cozy corner to cuddle up in. While most of us won't be lighting a bonfire or baking a pie every day, there are also tons of fall candle scents that can give you your "smell of fall" fix, too.
We love taking the time to explore some of the quintessential tastes of fall - apple cider doughnuts, pumpkin pie, hot toddies, rosemary stuffing, and roasted turkey. We turn to the acclaimed restaurant scene in Chicago to deliver new twists on these fall classics - without any of the messy cleanup.
Autumnal hues evoke the feeling of falling leaves, luxe layers, and shorter days. Along with the expected orange, brown, and red hues, you can look for varying shades of blue and green this season. This fall, be on the lookout for Holly & Tanager handbags in rich navy and vibrant emerald.
Fall is a season of change, and we are fully embracing it. We’re excited to bring our backpacks, handbags, and accessories along as the perfect companions for all our favorite fall activities!
