Our Favorite Festival Season Hacks

If you’re a fan of live music, summer tends to become synonymous with festival season, that glorious time of year where you can find a music festival going on almost every weekend in our home city of Chicago. Really, is there anything better than your favorite bands, street food, and a summer breeze? Our short answer is “Yes, enjoying those things in comfort!” We know from experience that summertime and crowds can get a little hot and sticky, so here are our top five hacks for staying happy, hydrated and having a good time.

Pack travel sizes - you’ll be glad you did
It can be easy to think “How much can I really need for one day?” and opt to bring only the bare minimum. As much as we love a good minimalist carry, it’s usually better to be prepared than to miss your favorite act while chasing down an emergency bandaid. In addition to a few bandages, sunscreen, a refreshing facial spray, and a mini deodorant are always nice to have. Just make sure to check the events FAQs page for what they allow in the venue so you don’t get stuck at security!

Face wipes for everything

Along the same lines, face wipes are an absolute lifesaver for hot and sticky summer days. Not only are they great for wiping away sweat and dirt throughout the day, but they also come in handy when the bathrooms run out of hand sanitizer, or after eating from food trucks. The old “pour the water bottle over your hands” trick only goes so far. And brands like Neutrogena and Burts Bees sell face wipes in travel sizes, so you definitely don’t have to take the whole pack!

Hydrate around the clock
All the face wipes and sunscreen in the world can’t keep you feeling fresh if you’re dehydrated. Most people know to drink water throughout the day but it’s also important to drink water before you’re even thirsty, as well as before you go to bed and when you wake up in the morning. You’ll feel better, stay healthy, and be able to enjoy the day.

Don’t wear your nicest outfit
As tempting as it may be to wear your favorite white blouse (cringe) or a fun new pair of shoes, it’s safe to say you may regret exposing new or lightly colored items to the festival elements. Dust, sweat, and spilled food and drink make durable and functional fashion a better choice.

Keep your carry minimal
And last, but certainly not least, the bag you carry with all of this! As you can guess, we’ve got a few great suggestions. Spacious enough to hold all of the above essentials, but light enough to sit comfortably on your waist, our Belt Bag is a classic and stylish option that’s perfect for walking all day and keeping both hands free. Another great option is our new Protege Mini Backpack, which also allows you to go hands-free and provides a little more space. Our Insider Card Holder Wallet is the perfect companion to either of these bags, allowing you to downsize to just your essential cards and lighting up your load even more.

We hope these tips help you have the best experience at any festivals you are attending this summer!
